Timeless (2022) #1 (released on December 28, 2022) was written by Jed MacKay and illustrated by an art team consisting of Salvador Larroca, Greg Land, and Patch Zircher. It serves as a giant-sized teaser book setting up the major Marvel Universe story arcs of 2023.
The Core Plot
A vulnerable Kang the Conqueror is aboard his flagship, the Prospero, searching for a temporal anomaly known as the "Missing Moment"—a single slice of time that he cannot see, control, or access. His quest is interrupted by a mysterious new overarching adversary: a powerful wizard named Myrddin
.Myrddin unleashes his own elite, Arthurian-themed super-team called the Twilight Court to hunt Kang down. The issue culminates in a grand battle where Myrddin manages to ambush and gravely impale Kang from behind, forcing the Conqueror to flee into Null-Time to survive and plot his next move.
Major 2023 Teasers & Prophecies Inside
As Kang calculates his moves and peers across the timestream, the issue treats readers to a splash page of prophecies outlining Marvel's 2023 releases:
- The Twilight Court: Introduction of Myrddin's warriors, including Arthur the King (wearing Chthon armor), Mordred the Witch, and Lancelot the Star.
- The "Missing Moment" & Avengers: Setting up the overarching narrative that seamlessly transitioned into the main Avengers ongoing series relaunch in 2023.
- Summer of Symbiotes: Teasers for a massive Spider-Man and Venom crossover event.
- Sins of Sinister: Glimpses into the dark, mutant-dominated X-Men universe alteration driven by Mister Sinister.
